Could this be trouble for Mankato Maurices?

Maurices is owned by Ascena Retail Group, they also operate Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant, Loft, Dressbarn and Justice. On Thursday, they  released first quarter results and things weren’t that great. They are struggling to get people into the stores and that translates to sales being down.

Ascena has more than 4,850 stores across its brands. Maurices is the biggest, with 1,012 locations. If 650 stores go, Maurices likely wouldn’t escape unscathed.

Maurices was started in Duluth in 1931 by E. Maurice Labovitz. There are now a few dozen stores in Minnesota including one in River Hills Mall, Mankato.
