St. Peter City Council to discuss sales tax to pay for new fire hall

(St. Peter, MN) – The St. Peter City Council will discuss a possible local option sales tax to help pay for the cost of a new fire hall.

No vote will be made at Tuesday’s work session, but a memo from City Administrator Todd Prafke says the goal is to take action at the next council meeting, which is scheduled for January 28th.  State statute requires the request must be made prior to January 31st of this year, according to the memo.

The current 8,400 square foot fire hall was built in 1929 and is too small for the amount of equipment needed.

The proposed size of a new fire hall is 22,000 square feet.
