(St. Paul, MN) – A southern Minnesota city was recently awarded a state grant for infrastructure improvements.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development recently awarded four Greater Minnesota Communities $5.3 million in grants for infrastructure projects.

The city of Sleepy Eye will receive $985,587 for the construction of new streets, water, sanitary sewer, and a  railroad crossing for a new industrial park.   The rail crossing will allow trucks to travel on the eastern side of town rather than crossing in the center of town, reducing truck traffic in residential and retail areas.

About ten jobs will be created over the next five years, according to estimates from the city, and many new employers are expected to result from the improvements.

Other cities to receive grants include Hutchinson, Kenyon, Paynesville, and Perham.
