(Mankato, MN) – Mankato police say that alcohol was detected in a man who reported he’d accidentally discharged his weapon at a Mankato apartment complex early this morning.

According to Mankato Public Safety Commander Dan Schisel, officers were called to the 600 block of James Avenue at 1:59 a.m.  where the men said he’d accidentally discharged his weapon when he was going to sleep and trying to rack rounds into the chamber.

Police say it appeared that the round went into the air or out the window into an embankment.

Schisel wouldn’t comment on the specific results but said there was a portable breath test done on the man, and alcohol was detected in his system.

No one else was at the apartment at the time

The Blue Earth County attorney’s office will review the police reports to determine if the man will be charged.  The 21-year-old could face a charge of “reckless discharge of a firearm.”  His name will be released pending any charges.
