Metro Check Scammers Target Mankato HyVee

Three people from the Twin Cities are jailed in Blue Earth County today in connection with a check cashing scheme that they were allegedly perpetrating in Mankato.

Mankato Police Commander Dan Schisel says three people were arrested when they tried to cash a counterfeit check at the hilltop HyVee on Thursday. Police had been alerted by security at the store, which was aware of several previous similar incidents.

Schisel says the suspects claimed that the paychecks were from their work, but the fast food chain that was named on the checks was contacted and told police they only do direct deposit.

Detectives are now trying to determine exactly how many times the suspects allegedly cashed counterfeit checks in Mankato and if other businesses in town were scammed as well.

The suspects are 29-year-old Janesha Ladonna Adams, 31-year-old Kendrick Delawrence Scott and 36-year-old Katease Shantae Scott. All are from St. Paul.
