(Mankato, MN) – Mankato police called the Saturday night phenomenon a “rarity.”

Commander Matt DuRose told media in a meeting Monday morning that the department had zero DWI arrests on Saturday night, which was a celebratory time for those playing Irish in observance of St. Patrick’s Day.

There were plenty o’ people out wearing the green, according to DuRose , who was on duty that evening.  But no arrests of drunken drivers.  And not for lack of trying.  The police commander said the police logs are filled with stops for traffic violations.

His theory?  People took full advantage of services offered for the evening festivities that transported them around safely.
