(Mankato, MN) – In a unanimous vote last night, the Mankato City Council passed Tobacco 21.

The ordinance would raise the legal age to purchase cigarettes and nicotine products – including vaping products – to 21.

In the weeks before the vote, the city ran a survey asking for public input.  Supporters and opponents of the vote spoke before last night’s vote.

There hasn’t yet been a date set for when the ordinance will go into effect.

St. Peter and Waseca, and 30 other Minnesota cities have also passed Tobacco 21 ordinances.
