Madison Lake Man Cited For DUI…On A Lawn Mower

A 60-year-old man from Madison Lake with a long history of drunk driving is again facing charges, this time after he was pulled over while driving a lawnmower.

Police say Thomas Edward Grothe was arrested while driving the lawn mower in an “erratic manner” near the intersection of Main Street and Maple Avenue in Madison Lake on July 20th.  Grothe was given a number of field sobriety tests, all of which police say he failed.

He was then taken to the Blue Earth County Justice Center, where testing put his blood alcohol content at .27, or more than three-times the legal limit.

Grothe has eight previous drunk driving convictions and hasn’t had a drivers license since 1978.
