Highway 99 Bridge In St Peter Now Probably Closed Until December.

The Highway 99 Minnesota River Bridge at St. Peter is expected to remain closed for construction until the first week in December.

The rehabilitation of the bridge was originally scheduled to be done by October 31st, but MnDOT says unplanned extra work has caused the completion to be pushed back.

MnDOT and the contractor are discussing options to ensure the project is done this year, which could include heating the enclosed bridge as well as bringing in additional people.

The $4.4-million project includes preserving the 1931 historic bridge by strengthening the truss floor beams, repairing the piers and abutment, adding riprap (rocks) around abutments, replacing the bridge deck and sidewalk, adding new lights and repainting the structure the original color of a dark green.

Until the project is complete, traffic will continue to be detoured to Highway 22 and Le Sueur County Road 21.
