(North Mankato, MN) – There is still a long way to go, but progress has been made on the Commerce Drive construction project.

According to a release from the city, an eight-foot bicycle path was installed Monday on the south side of the roadway between Roe Crest Drive and Lor Ray Drive.  The path wasn’t entirely completed because of additional work that needs to be done at the intersection with Roe Crest.

Rain pushed curb installation to Wednesday, and concrete driveway aprons will be poured on Thursday. New driveways should open next week.

More road closures are expected as the work progresses: Starting Thursday, July 11th, Roe Crest Drive will close to traffic between Commerce Drive and the first entrance into the mini-mall.  Fire hydrant replacement will also shut off water to several businesses Thursday evening.  Those businesses were already notified, according to the city’s press release.

On Saturday, July 13th, storm sewer installation will cause temporary road closures; one in front of Kwik Trip and another in front of South Point Federal Credit Union.  Each closure will occur separately.  The city estimates an approximate two-hour closure for each installation.

Thru traffic on Commerce Drive will continue to be limited, but businesses will be accessible.
