(Mankato, MN) – A boy is believed to have drowned in the Blue Earth River Saturday evening.

Emergency workers were dispatched to the Rapidan County Park at 5:49 p.m., where an 11-year-old boy was swimming in the river with other children when he went missing, according to a release from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s office.

The boy was “believed to have been pulled into deeper water by the current,” said the release.

Rescuers postponed search after sunset, but efforts will resume in the morning.  Rapidan County Park will be closed while the search is active.
