2 more shootings in St. Paul during a violent year

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Two more shootings in St. Paul during a violent year have left a student athlete dead and a suspect wounded by a U.S. marshal.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports officers were dispatched Wednesday afternoon to a west side residence where they found a teenage boy had been shot in his upper body. Family and friends identified him as 17-year-old Da’Qwan Jones-Morris, a senior at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights and captain of the football team.

Juvenile petitions charge a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old with second-degree manslaughter.

Meanwhile, the second shooting happened during a gas station melee when a federal marshal who happened on the scene opened fire, wounding a suspect about 5 p.m.

The city has had 29 killings this year, the most in 25 years.
