(New Ulm, MN) – One person was hospitalized after a fire Monday night in New Ulm.

Fire crews were dispatched to a home on the 1200 block of North Spring Street just before midnight, where they found the house filled with smoke.

Police assisted with evacuating the occupants from the home.  One person was transported by the Allina Ambulance, according to a release from Fire Chief Paul Macho.

Crews were on scene working to extinguish the blaze for approximately one and a half hours, according to the release.

The department says smoke alarms were working on the main floor.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
