Strange Twist In Case Of Dog Found Tied To Boat Anchor.

It turns out that the case of a dead dog that was found tied to an anchor and floating in a Willmar area lake earlier this month was likely a misguided act of love.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Department says it appears that the owner of the deceased Springer Spaniel wanted the dog to be in a place where she loved to go while alive.

Sheriff Dan Hartog says two anonymous tips and their investigation led them to a person who said that the dog was put to sleep because it was suffering from a serious illness. The owner then put the dog in Point Lake, where the two had gone many times to swim and fish.

An examination of the dog’s body turned up no signs of trauma.

The dog owner was fined $190 for the petty misdemeanor offense of illegal disposal of an animal’s body in a lake. The owner’s name has not been released.
