Sibley County Sheriff’s Deputy Charged With Drug Possession And Trespassing

A Sibley County Sheriff’s Deputy is behind bars, facing charges of drug possession and trespassing.

According to a statement from authorities, 44-year-old Jason David Ruehling of Arlington was arrested on June 8th, about a week after he was placed on paid administrative leave. At the time, he was given written notice not to return to the Sheriff’s Office, but he did and was found to be in possession Schedule IV controlled substances.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath says Ruehling had been with the Sheriff’s Office for about 17 years and drug cases were among those that he investigated. Sheriff Ponath wouldn’t detail why Ruehling was put on administrative leave in the first place, saying that remains under investigation.

The McLeod County Attorney’s Office will be handling the prosecution to avoid a potential conflict of interest in Sibley County.
