MSU STUDENT-ATHLETE DIES IN TRAGIC CAR ACCIDENT

A Minnesota State University student and track and field champion dies Tuesday after his vehicle was struck by a tractor on Highway 14 near his hometown of Lamberton.

Jeffrey Thomas DeCock, 22, died at the scene.

Steven Alan Churchill, 55, of Revere, was driving a tractor east on Highway 14 and struck DeCock’s westbound 2008 Dodge Charger with the tractor’s fork attachment as he was attempting to turn onto gravel.

DeCock captured Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference indoor championships for the Mavericks in the high jump in 2016 and 2017.

“We are profoundly saddened by Jeff’s sudden passing,” said Athletic Director Kevin Buisman.
