Millions Of Unpaid Child Support In Greater Mankato Area

It’s been another year with millions of dollars in unpaid child support in Greater Mankato.

In Blue Earth County, there are 2,502 open child support cases. About $471,000 was collected in the average month from October 2016 through July 2017, but another $188,000 that was due monthly went unpaid.

That’s a collection rate of about 71%, which means the total amount of unpaid child support in Blue Earth County will be more than $2.25-million for the 2017 federal fiscal year, which runs October through September.

The large amount of unpaid child support is, of course, not exclusive to Blue Earth County.

For FFY 2016, $1.2-million went unpaid in Nicollet County with 1,300 open child support cases, while $658,000 went unpaid with 970 cases in Brown County.
