Mankato Police Say Man Purposely Drives Into People Near MSU, 6 People Injured, 2 Airlifted

A 21-year-old man from Montgomery is jailed after allegedly driving his car into a group of people near MSU-Mankato around 1:50 Sunday morning.

Police say Juan Carlos Lamas, Jr. deliberately drove his vehicle into a group of people in a parking lot near 104 Bunting Lane, striking and injuring at least six people and two parked cars.

Two of the injured were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Two were treated at MCHS-Mankato.

Lamas fled the scene but was later apprehended by Blue Earth County Sherriff’s Deputies and booked into the Blue Earth County Jail.

Formal criminal charges of drunk driving and criminal vehicular operation against Lamas are expected as early as Monday.
