Mankato Man facing criminal charges after allegedly leading police on a chase….on a moped.

An 18-year-old from Mankato is facing criminal charges after allegedly leading police on a chase while driving a stolen moped.

Gavin Richard Hill is accused of fleeing police, receiving stolen property, driving after revocation, along with two other traffic violations.

Court documents say that a North Mankato police officer spotted Hill driving the moped without protective eye wear around 1:30am Monday. The officer activated his lights and siren and tried to get Hill to stop, but says Hill just kept going from Center Street to Webster Avenue and then onto Lake Street.

Hill then allegedly went past a barricade onto a bike/walking path that isn’t accessible to motor vehicles, but eventually ended up on Highway 14 and then Highway 169 with several squad cars in pursuit. Law enforcement was finally able to get him surrounded and stopped.

Police later learned that the moped had been stolen from a residence in Mankato and that Hill didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
