The crash happened at the Flying W Airport around 1 p.m. when the helicopter, a Schweizer 269, crashed into a wooded area.

“Shortly after our arrival, the helicopter did go down,” said Medford Township Police Chief Richard Meder. “It went into a field south of the airport.

Audio from dispatchers reveal the helicopter was struggling with mechanical problems.

The helicopter hovered and waited for the fire department to arrive before they tried to land, according to the audio posted by The Blast.

“They are going to try an emergency landing in Medford Township,” a dispatcher can be heard saying.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.

The Pilot, 30 year old James Evan Robinson, also died in the crash.
