Allegedly, Mankato Woman Steals Dog, Demands Reward

A 45-year-old Mankato woman has been charged with theft for allegedly stealing someone’s dog.

According to the complaint, Vanessa Woodard stole the female Maltese on September 2nd. At the time, the dog was tied to a tree and the person watching it was doing yard work, never leaving the dog alone for more than five minutes.

A couple days later the dog was spotted in Dublin Court and the victim sent her sister to go get the dog, but Woodard refused to give it back, so the sister called police. The responding officer says Woodard told her that she took the dog because she thought that it was wrong to tie a dog to a tree.

The officer says when asked why the dog no longer had its collar on, Woodard became angry and started yelling and said she wanted the $500 reward being offered for the return of the dog.

The officer took possession of the dog and returned it to its owner.
