Airbnb Guest Allegedly Tried To Sexually Assault 7 Year Old Girl


(Mankato, MN) – A word of caution for those in Mankato and across southern Minnesota who use Airbnb to rent out rooms, after an incident in the Twin Cities where a guest allegedly tried to sexually assault the host’s daughter.

Twenty-eight-year-old Derrick Kinchen of Lansing, Michigan, was charged Tuesday with second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

According to the complaint, Kinchen had rented out a spare bedroom this weekend at a home in Minnetonka through the Airbnb website. Kinchen arrived at the house around midnight Saturday after attending a wedding, and about 15 minutes later the host walked into his bedroom and saw Kinchen lying naked on the bed next to his seven-year-old daughter.

The father yelled at Kinchen, who fled. Police were called and they found Kinchen hiding in a nearby fishing boat, naked except for a suit coat.

Airbnb says it is supporting the host family and has banned Kinchen from using its services.
