Details On The Motorcycle Accident That Claimed A Le Sueur Mans Life.

A 57-year-old man from Le Sueur has died after crashing his motorcycle due to a pickup losing its load.

A relative of Thomas Willis Ely says he passed away this morning (Sunday) at North Memorial Hospital, where he had been airlifted following the Thursday night crash.  Funeral arrangements are pending.

The State Patrol says the pickup was on Highway 19 in Scott County when it lost its load just before 10:00 Thursday night. A Corvette behind the truck braked and swerved to the right and Ely did the same, but struck the Corvette, ran off the roadway and Ely thrown from his cycle.

The pickup driver, 39-year-old Mark Daniel Reiland of New Prague, was not injured; nor was the driver of the Corvette, 39-year-old Corey Matthew Swenson of Henderson.

Reiland was cited for having an unsecured load. The State Patrol says the items that fell from his truck included a metal type chair, a carpet type item and other debris.

The incident serves as a tragic reminder about the dangers of unsecured loads, which are a common issue in Minnesota. During this past Memorial Day weekend alone, the State Patrol received nearly 250 calls for debris in the road, including ladders, coolers, mattresses, plywood…and a boat.
